Full Day Chalten - Free
Excursion overview
El Chaltén is a small tourist village located at the foot of the Andes Mountains and on the banks of the Río de las Vueltas, from where it is possible to contemplate a unique and exclusive natural scenery of Los Glaciares National Park that combines the magic of glaciers, hidden lagoons, Lake Viedma and the mythical presence of Mount Fitz Roy. From the town you can usually see its unmistakable and imposing summit, almost always covered by a cloud.
Leaving from Calafate, the road enters the steppe following the shores of Lake Argentino to take the detour to the mythical Route 40 heading north, crossing a landscape of extreme aridity. Further on, it joins Provincial Route 41, which heads west until it reaches El Chaltén.
A series of self-guided trails start in El Chalten and lead to the main viewpoints: Laguna Capri, Mirador del Fitz Roy, Mirador del Cerro Torre, Mirador de los Cóndores, Salto del Chorrillo. Our recommendation is to take the trail to Laguna Capri, in order to reach the viewpoint located on a blue water lagoon surrounded by native forest, from where you get a fantastic view of the Fitz Roy massif.
