Estancia Nibepo Aike
Excursion overview
Dedicated to sheep breeding, with all the vestiges of the heyday of wool production, Estancia Nibepo Aike, located in a unique natural environment, is an ideal place to get into the life of an authentic Patagonian ranch In the heart of Los Glaciares National Park, Nibepo Aike is today the most prestigious Hereford ranch in the area.
Departing from the hotel, the trip follows the route of the ranches. An hour later, the host guide of the ranch offers a reception with mate, tea and coffee with fried cakes, at the foot of a wonderful view of the Andes Mountains. During the visit a walk is made overlooking the South Arm of Lake Argentino where you can see how they are exposed, rocky outcrops eroded by glacial action and changes in lake levels, which rises and falls in tune with the movements of the Moreno glacier and thaws. You can appreciate the folds of the earth’s crust differentiated from each other by the variety of sediments that gave rise to them. These formations follow one another until reaching a point where the rocks form a natural amphitheater giving rise to quiet beaches of curious shapes.
The path leads to the discovery of the forest of lengas and ñires, where caranchos, cachañas, hares, woodpeckers, eagles and an abundant variety of native flora and fauna live.
During the visit, a Creole skills test (*) is carried out: reins test, Creole horse gentleness and the awaited demonstration of manual shearing, accompanied by a talk on classification and baling of wool.
A tour through the historic center recalls anecdotes and stories of the first settlers.
Everything ends with lunch at “EL QUINCHO”.
(*) The Creole skill tests are subject to weather conditions.
